Wissam Ben Yedder: "A very good chemistry between us"
Two days before a visit from Lorient this Sunday (1 p.m.) as part of the 24th round of Ligue 1, Wissam Ben Yedder spoke at a press conference.

He is the most in-form scorer in Ligue 1, of which he is the top scorer with 14 goals. Involved in six goals in Ligue 1 in 2022 (4 goals, 2 assists), Wissam Ben Yedder will try to continue this incredible run on Sunday (1 p.m.) when hosting Lorient, as part of the 24th matchday. This is what the Monegasque captain expressed in a press conference; here are the key extracts.

It's true that I feel good, that I'm in good form and I want to make that last. It's always rewarding to be top scorer but I'm not focused on that. I am thinking more collectively, in order to help my teammates. But if I score, of course it will help the collective, which comes first.

Philippe Clement’s philosophy

The coach supports us a lot, pushes us to get forward and gives us freedom to express ourselves on the pitch, regardless of the team we are facing. This trust allows us to perform well. At the moment, we are stringing together victories and the most important thing will be to remain consistent. But there is a very good chemistry between us.

Are your goals the podium and the Coupe de France?

Of course, for the supporters, a derby in the Coupe de France final would be really wonderful. But we are going to take it match by match because there is a semifinal to play against Nantes which will be very challenging. It will not be necessary to overthink things, in the league, or in the Coupe de France. We are only focused on ourselves, there is no pressure.

Being top scorer in Ligue 1

It’s true that I feel good, that I’m in good form and I want to make that last. It’s always rewarding to be top scorer but I’m not focused on that. I am thinking more collectively, in order to help my teammates. But if I score, of course it will help the collective, which comes first.

As many goals as David Trezeguet in the league

It’s really very impressive because David is a very great player, someone whom I admire. It is inevitably a joy to be spoken of in the same breath as him. I try to continue to score, that’s what people want the most, while remaining at the service of the collective and making efforts for my teammates, especially the youngest among them.

Radamel Falcao as a role model

He was a huge player, who played and scored a lot at AS Monaco. I had the chance to meet him a little before he left and I recently rewatched all of his goals. He has class, he knows how to score. We had the chance to see a very great Radamel in Monaco and, for my part, I am trying to continue doing what I know how to do.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
