Axel Disasi: "We must congratulate our supporters who had a huge game"
Très heureux d’avoir pu donner la victoire à ses partenaires en 16e de finale aller de Ligue Europa sur le terrain du Bayer Leverkusen (2-3), le défenseur central monégasque s’est exprimé devant les médias à l’issue de la rencontre.

Like his teammates, he was HEROIC! Encouraged by AS Monaco supporters who came in large numbers to the BayArena,, Axel Disasi found the necessary energy to give his team the win in added time (2-3). It was an amazing goal and an amazing performance, that the captain on the evening analyzed in the mixed zone following the final whistle.

Good evening Axel. A word first on this important goal…

Frankly at the time, I didn’t ask myself any questions. I saw Eliesse receiving the ball and playing it in one touch, so I told Chrislain to leave it. Even before I touched the ball, I knew that I was going to shoot. With my first touch, I tried to make a good control to go forward. Then when it came time to shoot, I just wanted to get it on target, and that gave us a nice goal that allowed us to win tonight. So that’s good, I’m very happy for the team.

We must highlight their support in the stands, because tonight they were great. I want to thank them, because we heard them from the warm-up, and once again they made a lot of noise on the road. We must congratulate them for the match they also had.
Axel DisasiAbout the Monégasque supporters

Tell us about the celebration at the end of the match with the Monegasque fans!

It was a beautiful moment with them! We must highlight their support in the stands, because tonight they were great. I want to thank them, because we heard them from the warm-up, and once again they made a lot of noise on the road. We must congratulate them for the match they also had.

As I scored, my first thought was to go towards them. And it was important to celebrate with them at the end and show them that we are one. Because it is also thanks to them that we did not give up, and finally got this victory.

Tonight you have a little lead ahead of next leg, is that your opinion too?

Yes indeed, even if the away goal no longer counts. We will have to rest well now, because before the return leg in the Principality, there is another match which awaits us, in Brest this weekend in the league (Sunday, 3 p.m.). We  finally climbed onto the podium, so there too we must not miss the opportunity. We will then have plenty of time to focus on the Round of 32 second leg at Stade Louis-II. And we will be totally satisfied only if we go for the same result.

Youssouf Fofana’s reaction:

We had a very good first half. Even if we scored from an opponent’s error, we did things very well. Defensively we were well organized, and we managed to thwart their game plan. We could certainly have done better offensively, however. In the second half we are surprised at the start of it, and this has become a theme, so we will have to work on that.

Despite everything, we remain positive and we manage to turn the game around at the very end. The two superb goals from Krépin and Axel came from shots from range. It’s something you work on in training. Fortune has smiled on us, but those weren’t shots of despair, they came from constructed play. This victory is ideal before going to Brest, even if we only have one foot in the next round. Now we have to take the second step.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
