Breel Embolo: “I've worked hard to be an extra option”

Breel Embolo: “I've worked hard to be an extra option”
Back on the pitch after 323 days of absence, the Monegasque striker expressed his joy in the mixed zone. As for Mohammed Salisu, he was obviously happy with this victory and this clean sheet.

They’ve made the best of the weekend. Winners in Brest (0-2),the AS Monaco players moved ahead of their opponents on the day and climbed into second place. It was a match that was long-awaited on the part of Breel Embolo, who camed off the bench in the 84th minute, making his comeback to Ligue 1, 323 after his previous match. He spoked in the mixed zone afterwards, alongside Mohammed Salisu, satisfied with a second straight clean sheet.

I am very happy to be back in the squad with the form like this. I've been feeling good for a while, but there was a procedure to follow. I've worked hard to be an extra option in the last few matches.
Breel EmboloOn his comeback

Good evening Breel. How does it feel to be back on the pitch?

I am very happy to be back in the squad with the form like this. I’ve been feeling good for a while, but there was a procedure to follow. I’ve worked hard to be an extra option in the last few matches.

What were your feelings in the duels?

I felt good, I had been waiting for my return for a few weeks. It’s a great help to be with this squad where there is a lot of quality. All the training is hard, it’s at a high level. But the most important thing for me was to be there to help the team. This match was obviously a little special. I tried to add a little extra but above all I wanted to enjoy it.

It’s a great result, this win against Brest…

We wanted to win, to go second. It wasn’t a simple match, the crowd was up for it. They started well but we were able to calm them down at the right time. Defensively, we were very strong and offensively, we know we can do better but today, the three points will do us a lot of good and we continue on this momentum.

We are going to go all the way, we know that we have not yet obtained what we want. There is still work to do, it is a decisive week. We will take it game by game and try to win everything.

Lille arrives in three days, how do you see this sequence of matches?

They’re a good team. Lille had a great match on Thursday against Aston Villa, they were not rewarded. I wasn’t able to watch them today but we will analyze the mistakes made today. We’re going to be ready for it. We play at home at 9 p.m., it’s a good time for everyone. It will be a big match and we will do everything to win this match because it is important for us.

I think it was a good match. We knew it would be tough so we prepared well. Brest was second in the table before the match, it was a very important game for us. We were focused.

Mohammed Salisu’s reaction

Good evening Mohammed. What analysis do you make of this match?

I think it was a good match. We knew it would be tough so we prepared well. Brest was second in the table before the match, it was a very important game for us. We were focused.

Do you think the team’s experience made the difference?

Yes, it definitely helped us. Many players have experienced this type of match, which is not easy to negotiate. As I said, the preparation for it was good. We were able to defend well, the job was well done. We leave with victory and another clean sheet.

The coach has introduced a 3-man defense, can you tell us about this system?

We knew that Brest was an efficient team on crosses. I think that’s why we played with three central defenders, and that’s what allowed us to defend well in our box.

Now it’s time for Lille…

Yes we are now focused on this match on Wednesday. It will also be tough but we will take things step by step. If we play with this same energy, we can win.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
