Breel Embolo: "Winning tomorrow would continue this good run"

Breel Embolo: "Winning tomorrow would continue this good run"
Scorer against Red Star Belgrade two days earlier, the Monegasque striker spoke to the media before the reception of Olympique Lyonnais (Sunday, 8:45 p.m.).

He has been one of the key men for AS Monaco in the last two games. The only scorer against Nice last Sunday (1-0) and at Red Star Belgrade on Thursday (1-0), Breel Embolo helped seal victory for the Rouge et Blanc in these matches. On the eve of hosting Olympique Lyonnais at the Stade Louis-II (Sunday, 8:45 p.m.), the Monegasque striker spoke at a press conference.

Differences between playing at home and on the road

It is true that at home, we have dropped points. We must also take into account the circumstances of the matches since we received a red card in each match. So that makes it more difficult for us. But we have ambitions and we want to beat everyone. It’s up to us to change that tomorrow and win against a strong opponent to leave with three points, and continue this good series.

As a striker, of course you always want to score more, it's up to me to work to make sure that happens. I don't set for myself a number of goals. But the most important thing for me is to see the team win, and if I can help them by scoring or providing an assist, that's good.

His goals for the season

As a striker, of course you always want to score more, it’s up to me to work to make sure that happens. I don’t set for myself a number of goals. But the most important thing for me is to see the team win, and if I can help them by scoring or providing an assist, that’s good. My personal objectives come after that of the collective.

A thorn in the side of opposing defences

Since the beginning of my career, I have always played in top teams, who control the ball. Coming to Monaco was a simple choice because we also have the ambition to have the ball. My role is therefore to always attack the defense in order to press high up the pitch, to recover the ball.

It is not always me who recovers it but this simplifies the task of the defenders and the midfielders. As soon as I’m on the pitch, like all my teammates, I give my all. And I’m lucky to be a striker who can change the course of the game with a goal or an assist.

I think that mentally, we've put together a good run of games. Even if we did not qualify for the Champions League or had matches in which things were unfavorable, we were able to react immediately. The team is still young and we do everything to win every game.

Collective improvement

I think that mentally, we’ve put together a good run of games. Even if we did not qualify for the Champions League or had matches in which things were unfavorable, we were able to react immediately.

The team is still young and we do everything to win every game. Whether the results are positive or negative, we always can look to the next fixture, and pick ourselves up.

The Fofana-Camara duo

They have a good connection on and off the pitch. Both are doing a very good job. Mo’ is a great guy, he is always smiling. He always gets forward and has been a big part of the Club since his arrival. He has enormous qualities and I have never seen him get angry off the pitch. I’m glad he’s in the locker room with us.

His own integration into the Club

The club and the players have done everything to make me feel comfortable as soon as I arrived. And that is reflected on the pitch, having adapted well to the squad. My role is not 100% defined yet, but that’s normal, it’s still the start of the season, and I’m continuing to learn every day. Off the pitch, I’m a pretty chill guy who laughs a lot. One thing is certain, it is that I feel very good here in Monaco.

His partnership with Wissam Ben Yedder

Wissam is a very great player. I don’t worry about him. I know what player he is. As soon as he is on the pitch, he will be the best because he is a killer in front of goal. We have two different attacking styles, which can work together. I play more of a complementary role and he has more of a finishing side. It’s up to us to work together in whatever situations we find ourselves in.
