Maestro Aleksandr Golovin, MVP from the game against Juventus

Excellent throughout the Red and Whites' 0-0 draw against Juventus, the Russia international dictated the tempo, earning him the title of MVP on the AS Monaco App.

They were in Champions League mode. Playing in perfect harmony on Wednesday night, AS Monaco secured their place in the playoffs against Juventus, thanks to the draw obtained in matchday 8 of the Champions League (0-0). A convincing performance in which Aleksandr Golovin made a significant contribution.

Everyone at once!

Still as comfortable as ever with the ball at his feet, the Monaco maestro dictated the tempo of the match, notably completing 18 passes into the opposition third, second only to Juventus’ Pierre Kalulu (19). The quality distribution of the Red and White’s number 10 also troubled the Juventus goalkeeper, as the Russian completed two passes before a shot – the most of the match – including a well-timed pass t0 Folarin Balogun whose shot was saved by Perin (72nd minute).

But Golo didn’t just dictate the attacking play. The Russia international was everywhere, as evidenced by a return of nine ball recoveries. This record demonstrates the midfielder’s importance in Sébastien Pocognoli’s system, proving just as valuable offensively as he was defensively against the Italian club!

Third MVP award of the season

Furthermore, in the draw with Juventus, the Monaco midfielder became the third most-capped player in the Club’s history in European competition with 39 appearances, behind Jean-Luc Ettori (60) and Claude Puel (50). This complete performance earned him his third MVP award this season with 51% of the vote. The playmaker finished well ahead of Lamine Camara, who was part of the Senegal squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations, and Denis Zakaria. Well done, Golo!
