Stevan Jovetić: "I want to play well and score goals"

Stevan Jovetić: "I want to play well and score goals"
Once again a starter and a scorer this Sunday afternoon, the Montenegrin international again delivered a very high level performance against Dijon (3-0). He spoke at the post-match press conference with the feeling of a job well-done.

Leading the line in Monaco’s 4-2-3-1 and then playing in support of Wissam Ben Yedder in the second half, Stevan Jovetić was a real handful for the opposing defense. A goalscorer in the 49th minute, the Montenegrin found the net by perfectly following up a penalty stopped by Saturnin Allagbé, allowing his team to open the scoring (1-0). It was an important goal,  as it gave the impetus for the Monegasques to come to life, before they finally won 3-0 against Dijon. A third win in a row allowed the Rouge et Blanc to stay in third place and got further to securing a European place. After his performance, Jove’ appeared in front of the media with a smile on his face.

I am doing very well with both Monaco and Montenegro. I'm scoring a lot of goals. I'm playing more often, so it's easier to have a sense of rhythm to my play. We've gone four games without conceding a goal -- the defense is doing a very good job too.

Good evening Stevan. This is the third game in a row you’ve started. Do you feel like an first-choice player?

I feel good and it is important to win every game. I’m focused and when I’m on the pitch I want to play well and score.

This is your 5th goal in 2021. How are you feeling about your form?

I am doing very well with both Monaco and Montenegro. I’m scoring a lot of goals. I’m playing more often, so it’s easier to have a sense of rhythm to my play. We’ve gone four games without conceding a goal — the defense is doing a very good job too. We must continue like this and take things game by game. We will then see where we will be on May 23.

Did you want to take the 2nd penalty?

Wissam remains our first-choice taker. He took the first and missed it. I wanted to shoot, that’s true, but he told me it was important for him to shoot and score. We played together at Sevilla and then after a few matches in Monaco, we know each other well. My position in attack? In the second half, I played on the left. It’s the coach’s job to decide where he wants me to play, but I feel comfortable everywhere.

The key in a game is to score in the first 10-15 minutes, because the more time goes by and the opposing team gets better and better. We remained calm, as was the case during the meeting against Metz. The team sent a good signal with this victory.

Do you want to stay in Monaco?

I would play the same if I wasn’t out of contract in June. I am physically well. But I don’t think about the future. I just want to finish the season scoring goals and reach the Champions League.

Is qualifying for the Champions League the goal?

Yes, our goal is the Champions League. But it’s not easy because three other teams are very strong. I hope we end up in the top three.

What was the trouble in the 1st half?

This type of match is very difficult because everyone expects you to win. Dijon were defending very low and leaving little space. In the first half, we created three or four chances. The key in a game is to score in the first 10-15 minutes, because the more time goes by and the opposing team gets better and better. We remained calm, as was the case during the meeting against Metz. The team sent a good signal with this victory.

Is the team ready to got all to the top?

I think yes. We have a lot of experience and we want to make it to the Champions League.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
