A magical Aleksandr Golovin is your MVP against Metz!
Author of a fantastic double from two long shots in the win against Les Messins, the Russian midfielder was widely acclaimed by fans of the Principality club on the AS Monaco App.

Who else could have won this MVP title than him? Struggling to make the difference and trailing in the fourth minute after a goal from more than 50 meters against Metz, AS Monaco had to rely on the class and talent of a man for a 2-1 win. This man was Aleksandr Golovin.

A firecracker in the opposite corner to equalize

The Russian midfielder, obviously starting in the 4-4-2 set up by Adi Hütter, first tried his luck from 20 meters against Alexandre Oukidja. It was a real firecracker that the Metz goalkeeper had difficulty pushing away for a corner.

This first unsuccessful shot was only a test as, 25 minutes later, he tried his luck again from the same distance. This time shifted  to the left side, our number 17 got the ball back on to his right foot before unleashing an exceptional shot into the opposite corner, which left the opposing goalkeeper no chance.

His second direct free kick with AS Monaco

He thus scored his third goal this season before doing it again on the hour mark. With a brilliant direct free kick 26 meters from the goal, Golo’ once again placed a precise shot which hit the post before finishing its run in  Oukidja’s goal.

It was the second scored in this way in an AS Monaco jersey after doing the same against Nîmes in the 2020-2021 season, and he dedicated it to teammate Ismail Jakobs. “Izo told me before the free kick that I could shoot to the right corner. I shot here, and I scored. This goal is for Izo. But I was lucky twice on my two shots, that’s all,” he declared, with great modesty, to the Club’s cameras.

No competition for long-range strikes

Maybe luck but above all a lot of talent for the midfielder, as it was not his first try. As our statistics partner Opta points out, he has already scored nine goals from outside the box in Ligue 1, more than any other club player in the top flight since 2006-2007.

And better yet, if we only take into account last season, the Kaltan Eagle has scored six in this way, at least two more than any other player in the league over the period.

Already a fourth MVP title this season

He thus scored for the 25th and 26th time with the Principality club, and Aleksandr Golovin also added four final passes before a shot, had an 82% succesful passing rate, made four recoveries and drew a foul.

A totally successful match which earned him a plurality on the AS Monaco App since he received… 97.6% of the votes. Already voted player of the month for September, he now brings his total of MVP titles to 4. Here too, no one has done better. So there is only one thing to say, well done Golo’ and thank you! 👏
