Aurélien Tchouameni in L’Équipe's team of the round for Matchday 21

Aurélien Tchouameni in L’Équipe's team of the round for Matchday 21
After winning the weekend's big match in Ligue 1 against Olympique de Marseille at the Stade Louis-II (3-1), AS Monaco saw Aurélien Tchouameni be named to l'Équipe's Matchday 21 team of the round on Monday.

We could have seen Wissam Ben Yedder be named last week after his great match against Montpellier (scoring a double in a 3-2 win). Unfortunately, the newspaper L’Équipe was not operational owing to an unprecedented strike. This week, the paper is back, and thanks to the victory against Olympique de Marseille in the big match of Matchday 21 in Ligue 1 (3-1), AS Monaco have placed a player in the team of the round.

A first goal in Ligue 1 with the Rouge et Blanc

And it’s Aurélien Tchouameni, who is in the spotlight this week. The Monegasque midfielder, who turns 21 this Wednesday, January 27, was rewarded for his exceptional match in the heart of midfield. Scorer of his first goal in Red and White with a header, on a corner by ’Aleksandr Golovin, he gave the lead to his teammates (2-1, 75 ‘) in the last quarter of an hour. But while he found the back of Steve Mandanda’s net, he was even more essential in his recovery play.

Thirteen ball recoveries

With his teammate in central midfield, Youssouf Fofana, they each made 13 ball recoveries. It was thus a real masterclass in a match that was ultimately decided on set pieces. It’s this phase of play in which Niko Kovac’s side is the most prolific in Ligue 1, with 19 goals scored already this season. Aurélien Tchouameni’s play was thus well worth a place in the team of the round, a player who symbolizes the improved play of the Red and Whites in 2021. Bravo, Aurélien!
