A winning return! After making his first appearance of the 2026-2027 season late on against Toulouse (2-2), Ansu Fati found the back of the net just a few days later in AS Monaco’s victory in Bulgaria against CSKA Sofia (1-2). The 23-year-old forward was therefore in good spirits as he faced the media ahead of Matchday 7 of Ligue 1 against Lorient at the Stade du Moustoir (kick-off at 5:15 p.m.). Here are the highlights 🎙️
His return to the team
I feel good. I was eager to get back to competitive action, so I’m happy to be back. I felt really good in Sofia, showed a lot of desire and want to keep playing. (The pre-season) was a long one, and I had a few setbacks with minor injuries. I worked hard to get back with the team. So today, I’m very happy, as I keep saying. What made me sad was not being able to do what I love most, which is playing football and being out on the pitch. But when I’m on the pitch, I give everything for the team.
Injuries
I wish I hadn’t had these injuries, but that’s part of football. I work every day to make sure I’m always available and don’t have to miss games. I hope it will stop happening one day, but there are examples of players who used to get injured often and have now found a balance.
My favourite position is close to the box, where I can score or provide an assist. It depends on the coach. He knows me and plays me where he thinks I can perform best. In any case, I’ll give everything!

His preferred position in attack
I’m happy whatever position I play in, as long as I’m on the pitch. I can play as a number 10, a number 9, a number 9.5 or sometimes out wide. The most important thing is to adapt and understand the game. My favourite position is close to the box, where I can score or provide an assist. It depends on the coach. He knows me and plays me where he thinks I can perform best. In any case, I’ll give everything!
AS Monaco, rivals to PSG?
We’ll try to do the best we can and finish as high up the table as possible. We know PSG are one of the best teams in the world, but we only play them twice. The most important thing is to win the other matches, such as the one against Lorient, who beat us twice last season. So we’ll have to give everything, but there’s still a long way to go in the league. Of course, we dream of winning a trophy. That’s the mentality we need to have at all times, but we know it won’t be easy.
His hopes of returning to the Spain squad
I’m working towards being called up again. To do that, I need to train well and put in good performances, but it’s not entirely in my hands. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll give everything! I need to be more consistent, like last season when I played a run of matches in a row. In any case, I hope I can return to the national team.
Making his move here permanent
Leaving Barcelona, my home, wasn’t necessarily easy. I’m convinced that Monaco is the best environment for me to keep developing, improving and playing my football. I want to thank everyone at the Club for the trust they have shown in me. As I’ve said, Monaco really is the best place to develop.
