They have thrilled us, and it is time to thank them. While the Roca Team punched their ticket to the first European final in its history in the Euroleague, Charles Leclerc came close to a second victory on home soil. It's an opportunity to look back on these performances as part of a high-flying sporting weekend.
A qualifcation for the ages
Friday, May 23, 2025, 9:53 PM, Abu Dhabi. The final buzzer has sounded. AS Monaco Basket has just defeated Olympiakos (78-68) in the Euroleague semifinals, thus securing its place in the first European final in its history. A historic performance, the likes of which have not been achieved since 1993 for a French club, when CSP Limoges achieved this feat.
A Heroic Defeat
Two years after a cruel elimination in the semi-finals against the same opponent, the outcome was quite different: a victory and a summit clash that awaits against Fenerbahçe in the final. After being close against the Turks at halftime, the Roca Team finally succumbed after a formidable run, forever etched in the club's history (81-70).
So close to the goal
He had claimed victory at the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, and he firmly intended to do the same this season! Setting the fastest time in both free practice sessions and qualifying for Q3, Charles Leclerc fought tirelessly to secure a second consecutive pole position at home.
But that didn't take into account a record-breaking performance from Lando Norris, the one and only driver to break the 10-minute mark for the first time on the Monaco circuit. Despite a fierce battle during the race, the Monegasque driver ultimately finished on the second step of the podium, flanked by the two McLaren drivers.
At the top of Europe... and beyond
In light of what they have achieved, the Roca Team and the Scuderia Ferrari driver can be proud -- proud to have contributed to the influence of Monegasque sport on the European and global stage. Before the beginning of a new chapter in their history.Congratulations to them both! 👏 🇲🇨
