Yaya Touré returned to his roots. In Monaco for the TV program "Ligue 1 Show," produced by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the former AS Monaco midfielder reminisced about his time at the Monegasque club.
The former Ivorian midfielder was able to see the new stadium of the Rouge et Blanc, which has been profoundly transformed since his time on the Rock during the 2006-2007 season (30 matches, 5 goals, 7 assists).
It was a season with the Principality club where the four-time African Player of the Year played under Laurent Banide alongside players such as Gaël Givet, Manu Dos Santos, Lucas Bernardi, Diego Pérez, Jérémy Menez, and Jan Koller.
“The Performance Center is magnificent! Even though the facilities have changed, I remember the old complex very well. It brings back very fond memories. I had a wonderful season there with coach Laurent Banide; we had a fantastic squad,” recalls the former number 15 of Monaco, who was also able to reunite with his former coach.
Autograph session and kick-off at the Louis-II Stadium
Winner of the Champions League in 2009 with FC Barcelona, and African champion with Ivory Coast in 2015, and a Manchester City legend, winning the Premier League three times, Yaya Touré then headed to the Stade Louis-II.
The former player took the time to greet fans at the Kids Tour set up in the stadium's forecourt for an autograph and photo session.
Back on the sidelines, Yaya Touré chatted with several players, including Folarin Balogun, Maghnes Akliouche, and his fellow Ivorian, Simon Adingra.
Then, CEO Scuro presented him with a jersey bearing his name, before the former Monaco midfielder kicked off the match.
Yaya, Munegu per Tugiu!
