Wissam Ben Yedder and his crazy start to 2023!

Wissam Ben Yedder and his crazy start to 2023!
Scorer before the international break in Ajaccio (2-0), the captain of AS Monaco has confirmed his great form since January. Here's a look at his crazy level of performance in 2023 thanks to the LFP.

He continues to amaze us, year after year. Already the scorer of 29 goals in all competitions in 2021 and 2022, a number which made him one of the most prolific strikers in Europe, Wissam Ben Yedder has continued to find the net in 2023. In just 13 games, he has already scored 12 times, including ten in the league, according to statistics published on the Ligue 1 website.

Top scorer in the league in 2023

The Monegasque captain is thus the top scorer in Ligue 1 since January, tied with Lille’s Jonathan David, who has played one more match. This substantial total was obtained thanks to a hat trick against’AC Ajaccio (7-1) in January,  and doubles against Paris Saint-Germain (3-1) and Troyes (2-2). Even stronger, taking into account his goal in Auxerre (3-2) at the end of December, he is quite simply the top scorer in the five major European leagues since the World Cup.

A master of efficiency…

Almost as successful at home (6 goals) as away (4), Captain’ Wiss is also the most prolific player on the road, among five other players including Loïs Openda and Alexandre Lacazette. This is one more statistic he added to in Corsica (2-0) before the international break by opening the scoring.

But as he is currently the player who has scored the most in 2023, it is above all thanks to his constant finishing since he only has needed an average of 2.7 shots to find the goal. He ranks third in this respect, the played who scored his 80th goal in Ligue 1 with the Principality club being only beaten by Alexis Claude-Maurice (2) and… his teammate Breel Embolo (2.6).

…who brings home precious points.

With a record of seven wins, three draws and two losses since January, AS Monaco is also the second best team in the league over this period. It’s an excellent ranking that is owed in large part to Wissam Ben Yedder, who helped secure six points thanks to his goals, as in Lorient, where had an equalizer in added time (2-2).

Still totally in the race to finish top scorer in the championship – he is only two goals behind Kylian Mbappé and Jonathan David – the Monegasque number 10 has only seen Habib Diallo (8) and Alexis Sanchez (7) be more clutch. So there is only one thing to say in view of all these figures, bravo Capi’! 👏

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
