Adi Hütter: "I am very happy to be the coach of AS Monaco"
Two days after his arrival in the Principality, the new AS Monaco coach, Adi Hütter, was presented to the press on Thursday at the Performance Center.

Officially named at the beginning of the week as AS Monaco coach until 2025, Adi Hütter was presented to the press this Thursday, in the auditorium of the Performance Center. Present alongside the new Director of Football, Thiago Scuro, the Austrian manager delivered his first words as the Monegasque coach. 🗣️

Above all, it is a pleasure for me to be here, at this incredible and historic Club. When I arrived at the Performance Center on Monday, I was impressed by the infrastructure and the professionalism of the people who work here. The members of the staff and the Club are also very professional and have a big heart. Our role, with my technical staff, will be to succeed here and with the people who work there.

Hello coach. What philosophy of play do you want to implement?

Before my arrival, I was able to talk on a video call with Thiago. As a coach, I like to develop young players and play with those who are hungry for success, this is the most important thing for me. I want to play a proactive, aggressive and dynamic game, as well as make quick transitions by winning the ball high up the pitch. We have a talented squad, and are eager to get results.

As an individual, I am someone who likes to communicate, as a kind of “team player”, as Thiago so aptly put it. I like to build relationships with my staff and my players. It is important that we all work together to obtain results.

What are your goals this season?

The most important thing is to get back into Europe. Next year, the Club will celebrate its 100th anniversary, and it is everyone’s goal to play in European competition. This will be the main task for Thiago and me, and it is for this reason that we must work on our squad in order to achieve this goal.

Did you already know Ligue 1 and what is your opinion of the league?

Yes, I know French football well. Ligue 1 is a top league in Europe, and has a lot of talented players. The teams play in a very physical and aggressive game. There are also many French players in the best European teams. I am therefore happy to be the coach of AS Monaco.

.

What were your first words to the squad?

When I arrived, I told them that I was happy to be there and to be part of this incredible club. I did not mention last season but only the future since we have high objectives. Now we have to focus on that.

It is my objective to find a style of play that will make AS Monaco appealing to the fans. We will need a few more players to have this aggressive style of play. Currently, nine important players are missing due to the international break in June but several players from the Academy are present with us.

How will you make Monaco an attractive team in terms of play?

It is my objective to find a style of play that will make AS Monaco appealing to the fans. We will need a few more players to have this aggressive style of play. Currently, nine important players are missing due to the international break in June but several players from the Academy are present with us. It is important to be able to count on them.

In training, you said a few words in French…

After the matches, I hope to be able to say in French to my players that I am very happy with their performance (smiles). I worked in Switzerland for 3 years with Young Boys Bern, (between 2015 and 2018), so I have already had the opportunity to practice my French. I already know a few words to use during matches. But I never studied this language at school. I mainly speak English but I want to progress and learn, even if it won’t be easy.

Tell us about your technical staff.

They are here today to support me (smiles). Christian Peintinger has been my assistant for seven years now. He is a great coach, in a professional and human way. We have had many successes together. Regarding Klaus Schmidt, I have known him for almost 20 years. He was been a physiotherapist, assistant coach and head coach. He too has had great results in the past. Both have a great spirit, and I hope we will succeed here as before.

It was great when I saw Breel Monday. He had a very good season under me at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before joining Monaco. He is a fantastic human, someone who is both funny and professional. This is very important in a locker room.

How has it been reuniting with Breel and Takumi ?

It was great when I saw Breel Monday. He had a very good season under me at Borussia Mönchengladbach, before joining Monaco. He is a fantastic human, someone who is both funny and professional. This is very important in a locker room. He is currently injured but I hope he will be back soon. I also knew Takumi for six months after he arrived at Red Bull Salzburg in the winter of 2015. He was only 20 then but showed great promise. In any case, I am happy to reunite with them both.

Do you think you need time to establish your style of play?

My style of play is not that different from last year. Unfortunately, the team was unlucky to end the season with a disappointing finale. But we are in a new season and we will have to pay more attention to our defense, be more compact, in order to avoid conceding too many goals like last year. We will have to focus on the defensive side of things. But if we manage to play with a high press and impose our aggressive style, I am convinced that it will please the spectators.

Rise. Risk. Repeat.
