Birmingham, Day 1: The Rouge et Blanc get their bearings

Birmingham, Day 1: The Rouge et Blanc get their bearings
Arriving in England on Monday to settle in at St. George's Park, the home of England's Three Lions, the AS Monaco players completed their first session of a week of intensive training.

As soon as they’ve arrived, they’re immediately getting to work! After leaving the Performance Center this morning, Adi Hütter‘s men headed for Birmingham to begin their training camp across the Channel. Barely on the pitches at St. George’s Park, the headquarters of the English national team, the Monegasques had the first training session of the week on the “Sir Bobby Charlton” pitch in the afternoon.

A first session for Philipp Köhn

On the menu for the session were pressing exercises, drills on small pitches and exercises in working on verticality in passing, before ending with ball fundamentals. It was an opportunity for AS Monaco’s first summer recruit, Philipp Köhn, to put on his boots alongside his new teammate. The traditional initiation happened after his presentation by the coach, and more serious things began. And, as if to underscore his debut, it was the Swiss goalkeeper who would give victory to the yellow team, after penalties.

An increase in intensity before facing Real Betis

All of this was done under the watch of Director of Football, Thiago Scuro, who is England alongside the Rouge et Blanc, who will attack their week of training hard, two days before the first friendly in England against Real Betis (Wednesday, 8 p.m. local time).

Recovery is a bit hard, but I'm happy to reunite with my teammates and touch the ball. We have put in a lot of effort, after taking things easy for a few weeks, so it's hard, but it feels good and above all we need it! Here there are very good baselines, and it's the right place to prepare in the best possible way.

It will be a good test, before facing Leeds United, fresh off relegation to the Championship, on Saturday in York (4 p.m. local time).
