The quick and agile player, who can play up and down the left flank, who came through the academy at his hometown club, FC Cologne, has signed a five-year contract, joining the Rouge et Blanc through June 2026.
December 2019 Bundesliga Young Player of the Month
Ismail Jakobs, who won the European U21 championship this summer, has made 47 official appearances (4 goals, 4 assists) for FC Cologne, who he joined in 2012 at the age of 13, before signing his first professional contract seven years later, making his top flight debut in the same year. Ismail Jakobs made his Bundesliga debut on 8 November 2019 against Hoffenheim. A month later, he scored his first goal in a win over Eintracht Frankfurt, before being voted the German league’s Young Player of the Month.
U-21 European Champion
Following a first successful season (20 games, 2 goals), Ismail Jakobs built on that in his second full season with FC Cologne, playing 27 matches and scoring two goals. A German -U21 international since September 2020, the left-footed player, who will turn 22 on 17 August, has earned nine caps for his country. On 6 June, he won the U-21 European Championships, having beaten Portugal in the final (1-0).
