Biography

Denis Zakaria is a pure product of Swiss football. Born in Geneva, he trained with Servette FC from 2004 to 2014. A player of great potential, he signed for Young Boys Bern the following year, in the summer of 2015. Under the management of Adi Hütter, he discovered the Super League, playing 67 games (2 goals, 4 assists) and helping the team to second place in the league during those two seasons. In the summer of 2017, at the age of 21, Denis Zakaria left his homeland to join Bundesliga side Borussia Mönchengladbach. Playing as a defensive midfielder, where he demonstrated his passing and recovery skills, the Swiss player made 146 appearances, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists. After five years in Germany, he joined Juventus in the 2022 winter transfer window. With the Old Lady, Denis Zakaria played 15 games (scoring 1 goal). While there, he discovered Serie A and played in the last 16 of the Champions League. He was then loaned out to Chelsea Football Club (11 games, 1 goal) for the 2022-2023 season, a new experience that gave him a taste of the Premier League. His performances for his club earned him a number of caps for Switzerland. Since then, the defensive midfielder has played 49 games, scoring three goals and providing four assists. A key figure in the Swiss national team, he has represented his country at the last five major international tournaments (the 2016, 2020 and 2024 European Championships and the 2018 and 2022 World Cups). After moving to the Principality in the summer of 2023, the player played 28 matches for the Red and Whites and scored 4 goals. Promoted to captain by Adi Hütter at the start of the 2024-2025 season, the Swiss No6 once again proved decisive. With 7 goals and 4 assists in 34 games, he has been a key member of Monaco's team.
