Philosophic despite his young age, Soungoutou says ‘you only have one life, you have to make the most of it and always be smiling’. Born in Stains, the defensive midfielder has played for Sucy-en-Brie, Joinville, Saint-Maur and Les Gobelins. He joined the AS Monaco Academy in the summer of 2018. After rising through the ranks of the Diagonale, he made his first appearance for the pros in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France against Quevilly-Rouen in January 2022, before making his baptism of fire in Ligue 1 a few months later against Rennes. It was August and Soungoutou came on in the 16th minute to make up for the dismissal of Youssouf Fofana. Along with team-mates Yann Lienard, Jordan Semedo Varela and Malamine Efekele, he went on to compete in the U20 World Cup at the end of that season. During the 2023-2024 season, the player made a name for himself in central defence, playing a total of 22 games. In his second season with the Red and Whites, he reached a new milestone, making 31 appearances. He scored his first goal for the Principality in the Champions League regular-season clash with Benfica.
