Caio Henrique: "We will have to be focused for 90 minutes against Clermont"
Sunday will see him a team he likes to face. Since last season, Caio Henrique has been involved in four goals in three games against Clermont in Ligue 1, his favorite opponent. With six assists in 2022-23, including the last match against Auxerre for Eliesse Ben Seghir, the left back arrives with confidence, like AS Monaco, who are undefeated in their last six games. Two days before the trip to Gabriel-Montpied, he spoke at a press conference with the desire to continue the team’s good momentum.
What to expect against Clermont
We expect a very difficult match since Clermont are five games unbeaten and are in the top half of the table. But we are on a good run and have good momentum. Like all of our matches on the road, it will be a challenging match where we will have to be focused for 90 minutes and take advantage of all our chances to pick up three points which will be important.
The end of the match against Auxerre
We are aware of what happened, we know that our concentration dropped at the end of the match. We talked about it in the locker room. We knew the importance of the three points and we didn’t do the right thing by making things difficult for ourselves, even though we still got the victory.
The first half was very good as Auxerre didn’t look dangerous and we had a lot of chances. But in second, we were giving them them the ball. Subconsciously, we thought it was going to be easy. Except that in football, if you stop pushing, the opponent comes back and they have quality in their attack. It’s a good reminder to keep in mind that you have to know how to finish the opponent when the opportunity arises.
The Brazilian national team
I’m pretty quiet about it. I had a good season last year with a lot of assists, which is also one of my strong points. I know that if I continue to put in these performances and work well, the staff will realize it sooner or later. If the opportunity arises one day, I will do everything to take it. It is a subject that I approach with calm; life is made of opportunities.
(On the Spanish national team). It is true that I have a double passport. So I’m open to playing with La Roja. I came to Spain when I was very young, it is a country for which I have a lot of affection and I still have friends there. But I am focused on my performances at AS Monaco.
The team’s youth
The Club’s philosophy is to focus on its young players. There is a great regard for this, as can be seen in the academy, La Diagonale. In training, I see a lot of quality in them, like we do with Eliesse. He is a hardworking and eager boy. I think we have in our presence a very great player of the future.
He is only 17 years old but he puts a lot of aggression into his game. Obviously, he will have ups and downs since he is very young. It will be up to us to help him so that he is in the best condition. It is important to have this mix between experienced players and young talents, it is very good for the Club.

Becoming a father
Becoming a dad was definitely a big moment for me. My daughter and my wife are still in Brazil, but should soon be joining me. I am fulfilled, my life has changed because I will have many more responsibilities now.
This will most certainly have an impact since when you are happy in your personal life, it shows on the pitch. In addition, I am working hard every day to improve in many areas and we are lucky that the staff prepares video clips for us to see the positive and negative things. I feel fulfilled at AS Monaco and am very happy to be here.
