A professional debut in Europe for Eliesse Ben Seghir!

A professional debut in Europe for Eliesse Ben Seghir!
Aged just 17, the young attacking midfielder of AS Monaco, trained at the Academy, made his debut in an official match with the first team, as part of the team's victory in the Europa League against the Red Star Belgrade (4-1).

It was only a few minutes… but they will remain etched in his memory for a long time! When AS Monaco scored a fourth goal to definitively seal a victory against Red Star Belgrade on Thursday evening (4-1), Philippe Clement signaled to Eliesse Ben Seghir to get ready. We then reached the 89th minute, when the evening’s hat trick hero, Kevin Volland, getting an ovation from the Stade Louis-II as he left, it was to make way for his young teammate.

I am happy to have been able to give Eliesse (Ben Seghir), his professional debut. Kevin's coming off was not specially planned, but he received a nice ovation from the fans. He did a very good job, like Wissam.

A European debut

At the age of 17, the talented attacking midfielder from the Elite Group could celebrate his first appearance in an official match with the first at this time, wearing the number 44 on his back! It was an unforgettable moment, even if it was short, to accompany the qualification of the Rouge et Blanc to the knockout stages of the Europa League. Trained at the Academy, he takes advantage of each touch of the ball, of each challenge, playing under a deluge which was falling on Fontvieille.

“Eyes full of stars”…

No matter, after taking part in friendlies against FC Porto this summer, Eliesse was finally thrown in at the deep end, even on a European night! So he was able to savor it! It doesn’t take much to see his face light up at the final whistle, being congratulated by all of his teammates. Special mention for his friend from the Academy, the French U-20 international U20 Yann Lienard, who acts as a guide to life among “the big ones”. And for good reason, a sthe native of Gassin-en-Var has been training with the first team for several weeks now.

And a desire to come back quickly!

But his debut marked a great occasion for the team, and now it’s done! “I can only feel happiness to have been able to play my first minutes with the first team’. (…) Now that I have tasted it, I know I have to continue to work twice as hard and be efficient in training to play as many minutes as possible”, he explained after the meeting, showing a lot of maturity. We can’t wait to see him back on the pitch...Daghe Eliesse ! #MadeInLaDiagonale
