He is about to discover a new league. Arriving this summer from Cercle Brugge, AS Monaco’s sister club, Flávio Nazinho celebrated his debut for the Red and Whites on Thursday in the Conference League play-off first leg against Górnik Zabrze (2-3 win). Ahead of another away fixture, this time at Le Havre, the No.20 shared his eagerness to experience Ligue 1. Highlights below 🎙️
The feeling after Górnik 🇪🇺
I have to say it’s a very good feeling to win that first match, especially because it was important to get a result away from home to start the season well. Now we go into the next game with a bit more confidence, and that’s crucial.
His first steps in Monaco 🇲🇨
Everything has gone well since I arrived. Everyone welcomed me perfectly — the team, the staff, every person I’ve met. It makes me feel at home already, and that’s what matters most to me. I already knew Edan Diop and Paris Brunner before coming here, since we played together at Cercle Brugge, so it wasn’t an unfamiliar environment.
On Mathys Detourbet 💎
He’s a fantastic player with great qualities! Of course, he’s still young, so he has things to learn to continue developing. But everyone can see he’s a top talent, and he can grow here if he stays focused on what’s important. As teammates, we can also help him reach the huge potential he has.
His view on Ligue 1 🇲🇫
I watched quite a few matches from the French league before coming, not only AS Monaco but other clubs as well. I expect a very intense league with a high athletic level, and players who are very technical and very fast. That’s what I think I’m going to experience.
Preparing for Le Havre ⚓
I obviously like to prepare before a match — look at who I’m going to face, which players operate on my side, and what their characteristics are. It’s important for me, even if the feeling is always different once you’re on the pitch.
It’s hard to talk about yourself, but I think I’m an aggressive, fast player, someone who plays vertically on the wing, who likes to contribute offensively and help his teammates. Those are my main qualities.

About his profile 🌪️
It’s hard to talk about yourself, but I think I’m an aggressive, fast player, someone who plays vertically on the wing, who likes to contribute offensively and help his teammates. Those are my main qualities. The bookings? I agree 100%. Last season I picked up too many, and it’s an area I need to improve, especially the timing of my tackles. I think I’ve already progressed, even if I don’t want to lose my aggressiveness. But I have to evolve in that aspect, not only for myself but also to avoid putting the team in trouble.
His ambitions 💭
Personally — and it’s something deep inside me — I really want to show my potential! I’m here in Monaco to grow, and the Club has given me this opportunity that I want to seize, because it’s a great environment to progress and perform. That’s my mission! I can bring my energy to the team and quickly learn from this new league.
Life in Monaco 🏙️
I train, then spend time with my family when I get home. Sometimes I visit the city, and I feel that people are very respectful in Monaco. Some ask for photos or autographs, but I really appreciate the respect people show here.
Portuguese players who have played for Monaco 🇵🇹
Many players came here before me — Fábio Coentrão, Bernardo Silva, João Moutinho, and even Rúben Vinagre, who like me was developed at Sporting Lisbon. It’s inspiring, because some of them became top players, and I want to become one as well!
Players who impressed him in training 👀
There are several, of course, but instinctively I’d say Mathys Detourbet for his qualities! But I can also mention Anis Soubeir, Aymen Assab who has good potential, and Pape Cabral. My first impression is that there are many young talents in the squad.
