The AS Monaco Academy is in the spotlight again! In its weekly newsletter published on Monday 24 October, the CIES Football Observatory revealed the ranking of the clubs who have trained the most active players in the European Big 5 leagues (France, Germany, England, Spain and Italy). It’s a table which shows the Principality club is in a good place, as is customary.
22 players #MadeInLaDiagonale
With 22 “MadeInLaDiagonale” players currently playing in one of the five major leagues of Europe, AS Monaco is quite simply the fourth-best French provider of young talent, just behind Stade Rennais (23 players). It’s an impressive performance that highlights the quality of the work being put into place at La Diagonale, AS Monaco’s training center.

In recent years, many players have come to the fore since their time at the Academy: Valère Germain (Montpellier), Kylian Mbappé (PSG), Abdou Diallo (RB Leipzig), Giulian Biancone (Nottingham Forest) or even Almamy Touré, who recently won the Europa League with Eintracht Frankfurt. This is, of course, without forgetting the team’s current central defender,, Benoît Badiashile, who recently became a French international for the first time under the colors of AS Monaco.
Ahead of Ajax, Manchester City and Bayern Munich
Moreover, among the 22 players playing in the Big 5 leagues, six of them are still playing in the Principality. In addition to the Monegasque number 5, Eliot Matazo, Maghnes Akliouche and Soungoutou Magassa have all played in Ligue 1 this season. To this we can add Félix Lemarechal, who came on at the end of the match against Lyon last season and Yann Lienard, who is the third goalkeeper for the professional team, into this ranking.

These numbers have led to a better position (14th) than some European heavyweights such as Ajax Amsterdam and Manchester City (19 players each), as well as Bayern Munich (17 players) and Juventus (10 players). A few weeks after the honoring of our “young guns” by the CIES, the Monegasque team has once again put proof of the excellent work being carried out by the Club in this area.
