Wissam Ben Yedder is again your MVP in his 500th match, against Le Havre

Wissam Ben Yedder is again your MVP in his 500th match, against Le Havre
The only Monegasque scorer in the draw at home against the Norman team (1-1), the captain of the Rouge et Blanc marked his 500th professional appearance with his 113th goal for AS Monaco.

He continues to push the limits. Already the scorer of eight goals in his last five matches, in all competitions, and involved in eight goals in 2024 (7 goals, 1 assist),, Wissam Ben Yedder did it again Sunday against Le Havre (1-1). The match was lively but without many goals, and the Monegasque number 10 had to wait until the hour mark to finish a three-way play with the duo of Golovin and Akliouche (1-0, 63′)!

A stone’s throw from second place

It’s one more goal to his already (very) high tally in La Diagonale , since it is his 113th goal in Rouge et Blanc. That is, two less than Lucien Cossou, the current second-top scorer in the history of the Club (115). All this, in what was his 500th professional appearance (174 with Toulouse, 138 with Sevilla and 187 with AS Monaco), reminded us the statistics specialist, Opta.

We are very happy for Wissam, he is helping us a lot with his goals. This is what we ask of him and this is what he expects of himself. We hope he will continue to score and help us get wins.

A new opponent beaten

Our partner  also specified before the meeting that Le Havre was one of the four teams against whom he had not yet scored in the top flight — along with GFC Ajaccio, Nancy and… AS Monaco. It was therefore job done, even if his shot across goal from the left, for his 11th goal in Ligue 1 this season, would not be enough to bring victory in this match marked by a tribute to the Monegasque legend, Jean Petit .

At the same level as Kylian Mbappé

However Captain’ Wiss spared no effort, securing three striking positions, making seven touches in the opponent’s area, two dribbles and winning five aerial duels . He is now the scorer of five of AS Monaco’s last six goals in Ligue 1. With three goals and oen assist in 2024, he has also been the player involved in the most goals this calendar year in the top flight. (4, level with Kylian Mbappé), added Opta.

Wissam has done very good things with Folarin and without him. He also showed great combinations with Maghnes Akliouche alongside him as a second striker. He has scored 8 goals in the last five games, so I think this stat speaks for itself. He’s a fantastic player, and he’s in great form at the moment!

Mister MVP!

Finally, Le Havre are the 32nd team against which Wissam Ben Yedder has scored at least one goal in Ligue 1 — only Dimitri Payet (34) and Jimmy Briand (33) have scored against more clubs in the top flight in the 21st century. It was therefore logical, to find the scorer named the MVP of the 20th matchday, with 82% of the votes from the Rouge et Blanc fans on the AS Monaco App.

This is already his sixth award this season, and his fourth in a row in 2024, having already been named player of the month for January a week ago.
