Three in a row for Wissam Ben Yedder, MVP in Marseille
With a goal and an assist, as well as being essential in keeping the ball against OM after going a man down, the Monegasque captain was elected MVP of the match for the third time in a row.

He continues to be the man in form this month! MVP in Toulouse, against Reims and in Rodez in the Coupe de France, Wissam Ben Yedder has done it again in Saturday’s big match at the Stade Vélodrome,  (2-2), making it four in five matches.

Second-top scorer in Europe in 2024

Starting alone in attack against Marseille, the Monegasque captain did not take long to shine. In the seventh minute, he was launched deep on a marvelous ball from Aleksandr Golovin. Turning past Bamo Meïté, he fired a perfect shot in from the left which lodged itself in goal of the helpless Pau Lopez. It was his sixth goal in all competitions in 2024, only Kylian Mbappé (7) has done better in Europe, and it was the sixth of his career against OM.

An assist to regain the lead

Marseille thus became the sixth team against which Captain’ Wiss has scored at least ten goals, after Nice (12), Lyon and Rennes (11 each) as well as Montpellier and Reims (10 each), notes our partner Opta. Scoring quickly, he would then turn provider just before the break on a perfectly worked counterattack.

Recovering the ball 25 meters from Philipp Köhn’s goal, he was not closed down, advancing to the opponent’s penalty area. He then played in Maghnes Akliouche with perfect timing to split the defense. The #MadeInLaDiagonale midfielder then did the rest by doubling the lead with a curling shot from the left.

Vital in keepng the the ball

He was also important in keeping the ball after the sending off of Guillermo Maripán after only 10 minutes of play, as the third top scorer in the Club’s history completed 88.2% of his passes (15/17), made two recoveries and was fouled. It was a complete match for him as he was named player of the match on the AS Monaco App with 68% of the votes, well ahead of Aleksandr Golovin, who assisted on the first goal (21%) and Maghnes Akliouche (5%) Bravo Wissam! 👏
