Among Europe’s nine unbeaten 🇪🇺

With six wins — two in the Conference League play-offs and four in Ligue 1 — plus one draw from seven official matches, the Principality club is one of just nine sides across Europe’s Big Five leagues still unbeaten. Of those, only five have played as many matches (seven, like Freiburg, Brentford, Everton and Liverpool), while FC Barcelona stands alone with a perfect record (eight wins from eight in all competitions).

These results have lifted AS Monaco to 38th place in Opta’s Global Power Rankings, the weekly updated list of the world’s top clubs, marking a rise of 13 places since August 1.

This unbeaten run (seven matches in all competitions) is significant, as Monaco had only achieved such a start six times before in its history, leading to four podium finishes (Division 1 champions in 1961, Ligue 2 champions in 2013, runners-up in 2014, and third place in 2025). A key figure in this remarkable start, Filipe Luís has delivered the best opening spell for a Monaco coach after seven matches (6 wins, 1 draw), surpassing Claudio Ranieri and Gérard Banide (5 wins, 2 draws), as well as Arsène Wenger (5 wins, 2 defeats).

Hradecký, an xG wall 🧤

So where does this level of performance come from? As the Brazilian coach has often stressed, it all starts with solid defending. And the Rouge et Blanc have raised the bar considerably, led by Lukáš Hradecký. According to Opta, the Finnish goalkeeper ranks third among Big Five keepers for goals prevented, conceding only two (excluding own goals) against 6.06 expected goals.

Leaders in the air and on the flanks 🪖

In other words, Hradecký has denied 4.06 additional goals. But he is not the only defensive standout: Eric Dier leads Ligue 1 McDonald’s in clearances (38) and headed clearances (28), while ranking third in aerial duels won (80%). The Senegal international also excels in high-intensity pressing (258) and pressing in the opposition half (105). Both categories, however, are topped by Aleksandr Golovin, who has recorded 305 pressings in Ligue 1 this season, including 196 in the attacking half. And of course, to win matches you need a striker — and AS Monaco has found a lethal weapon in Paris Brunner. After finishing as top scorer in pre-season (5 goals), the young German forward has already netted six times in official matches (two in the Conference League play-offs, four in Ligue 1).

Clinical in front of goal — and more ⚽

Only Ferran Torres (7 goals — Paris Saint-Germain) has scored more in France, with the World Cup winner also boasting the best scoring ratio in Ligue 1 (1 goal every 46 minutes), ahead of Ayase Ueda (Lille — 1 goal/90 minutes) and… Paris Brunner (1 goal/95 minutes).
