There were many who could lay claim this title, thanks to the three victories obtained by our Monegasques in Ligue 1 last month. But with three goals, including two in the match held on the 17th and final day of the season's first hald against Toulouse (a 1-2 win), Wissam Ben Yedder was named the December MVP by Bang & Olufsen.

(Almost) two tiers of votes
With just less than 60% of the votes of theRouge et Blancon social media, our Monégasque number ten finished ahead of Philipp Köhn (20.04%) and Youssouf Fofana who scored and was MVP against Rennes - (19.96%), both in virtual dead heat. And for good reason, as the month had started ideally for the captain of AS Monaco, decisive in less than 16 minutes of play at the Stade Louis-II against Montpellier to seal the three points... with his 100th goal at home!
A mischievious first...
On the lookout on a poorly cleared ball by another No. 10, Téji Savanier, he then finished from close range against his former teammate, Benjamin Lecomte (2-0, 92'). A substitute in Rennes (in a 2-1 win) then on off the bench against Lyon (a 0-1 defeat), captain Wiss’ would strike again at home, where it had began. In the XI at kick-off of the final match of 2023 in Toulouse alongside Folarin Balogun, he didn't hesitate to make his mark on the match.
When I arrived here, I knew Wissam’s status at AS Monaco and in France. I don't take it as competition because I learn a lot from him by playing alongside him. I am very happy to be with him.
Folarin Balogun
..before an impressive double at the Stadium!
After being caught cold away to Toulouse in the fifth minute of play, theRouge et Blancreacted twice. Again opportunistic on a poor opponent's clearance, Wissam Ben Yedder first took the opportunity to delight us with a sequence of chest control and volley from range, which ended up with the ball in the net (0-1, 27')!
I played him because he deserved it, but also because I wanted to play with two number 10s and two attackers, which was very risky but it worked. I'm happy in the end to have made this choice and that Wissam scored a double, because he deserves it once again.

Then there was a kind of goal that he particularly likes ( 88.5% in his career, 91.2% for AS Monaco), the Monegasque striker converted a penalty won by… Balo’!Teamwork.
Successful collective performances
The result was three more points in the bag and third place at the winter break. This efficiency therefore earned the captain of the Club his first title of player of the month by Bang & Olufsen of the season.
This is without forgetting the (very) important saves made by Philipp Köhn, in particular to save the victory in Rennes (1-2), nor the efforts of Youssouf Fofana in midfield, nor the importance of Wilfried Singo or Denis Zakaria in creating defensive balance in the team.

A third different winner
Captain Wiss’, was also a part of L'Équipe's team of the round for Matchday 17 in Ligue 1, thus followed Aleksandr Golovin, who had won each of the last three months, and Takumi Minamino, who won in August.Bravo to him, and to the whole team for a strong end to the year! 👏
