The last line of defence, Alexander Nübel is your MVP against Lille!

The last line of defence, Alexander Nübel is your MVP against Lille!
With four decisive saves, the Monegasque goalkeeper kept a clean sheet against LOSC, allowing his team to earn a precious point in the fight for fourth place. He was elected MVP of this match on the AS Monaco App.

He turned into a real wall against Lille, confirming his recent good form. Already key in Angers last weekend with a fabulous stop against Ibrahima Niane with the score still 0-0, Alexander Nübel was a real artist in the team’s win in Brittany (2-1).

Two world-class saves

This Sunday at the Stade Louis-II against LOSC, he did it again, allowing his team to obtain an important point in the fight for fourth place (0-0). If the German goalkeeper was not troubled in the first half, except on a header from Jonathan David captured without concern (10′), the danger would increase after the hour mark.

He first made a superb reflex save with his foot to deny Timothy Weah (64′) before a good move off his line to take the ball off the feet of Jonathan Bamba (68′) before keeping out a powerful strike from the Ivorian striker (69′). These two world-class saves allowed AS Monaco to stay in the game.

A tenth clean sheet of the season

Once the storm had passed, the Monegasque number 16 then stopped a last header that lacked power from Jonathan Bamba on his line (82′). These four saves thus bring his total to 122 since the start of the season.

He now is the second-ranked goalkeeper in the league in this category after Nantes’ Alban Lafont, who has 130. But above all, Alex “The Wall” recorded his 10th clean sheet of the season in all competitions, and the first since Ajaccio in March (2-0).

MVP for the sixth time

It is therefore quite logical to find him elected MVP of this match by you, the Rouge et Blanc fans on the AS Monaco App. With 58% of the vote, the goalkeeper was well ahead of Aleksandr Golovin (13%) and Axel Disasi (10%), to win his sixth trophy. Only Wissam Ben Yedder (15) and the Tsar (7) have done better this season. Bravo Alex! 👏
