A heroic Philippe Köhn is your MVP against Le Havre!

A heroic Philippe Köhn is your MVP against Le Havre!
Author of a very impressive game in Normandy and notably decisive on the Le Havre penalty in the final seconds, the Swiss goalkeeper was named man of the match by the red and white fans on the AS Monaco App.

He was the big man of the 12th round of play for AS Monaco. In a match that was hard-fought  but in need of saves against a dangerous Le Havre side Philipp Köhn knew how to get the job done. And even in the first minute, since he was called into action on a shot across goal from Loïc Nego at the start of the match (7′).

Great anticipation to deny Alioui

Well protected by Guillermo Maripán (41′), he would then experience a lively second half. He had to indeed be vigilant on an attempt by Antoine Joujou from the edge of the area (50′). Then immediately it was the same in a one-on-one with the attacker trained at the Academy, Nabil Alioui, whose intention to slot the ball home was perfectly read (53′)! The Swiss goalkeeper was then a little less worried about a long shot from Abdoulaye Touré (61′).

Decisive on the winning penalty!

On the other hand, he needed a lot of calm to manage the last moments of the game, on a penalty awarded by Mr. Leonard, which another former Monegasque, Samuel Grandsir, was responsible for taking. We then played into the 100th minute, and Philipp got down perfectly to keep out the Le Havre winger’s shot! It was the final action of a match that was in doubt until the very end, and ultimately finished as a 0-0 draw.

It was an incredible feeling to stop the ball. Sometimes it's luck, but I was confident, and a little nervous too. It was 50/50, he was right-footed, it was late in the match, so he was tired. He could choose either side, but in the end I was lucky to choose the right option.

A stone’s throw from l’Équipe’s Team of the Round!

But the man of the match was ready, especially since he has just brought his team a second clean sheet in a row. Incidentally, our number 16 has just made the first save by a Monegasque goalkeeper from a penalty since… February 24, 2019, notes Opta! Credited with a rating of 8 in the sports daily L’Équipe, he narrowly missed being present in the  team of the round because of the massive performance by Gianluigi Donnarumma against Reims.

In the end, it's still a second clean sheet in a row, so on that level I'm satisfied. (...) Philipp Köhn saved us the result thanks to his penalty save.

No matter, with 5 decisive saves and an 88% pass completion rate, he won 61% of the votes from Rouge et Blanc fans on the AS Monaco App, just ahead of Aleksandr Golovin (23%), who was MVP of the last three matches. Daghe Philipp! 🧤
