After Flávio Nazinho, it is time for the club’s second signing of the summer. Having just joined AS Monaco on loan from Manchester City, Mathys Detourbet is a 19-year-old attacking player capable of operating both as a left winger and an attacking midfielder. Before he makes his debut in Red and White, here are 10 facts to know about the Club’s new arrival. 🔍

Following in the footsteps of a former Club champion 🏆

Born in Troyes, Mathys Detourbet first discovered football in his garden with his father and joined ES Municipaux de Troyes at the age of six. The 2007-born player was quickly spotted by ESTAC, whom he joined two years later. The dynamic right-footer progressed through every level of the club’s academy in the Aube region before turning professional, following a path similar to that of Djibril Sidibé, the 2017 French champion with AS Monaco, who was also born and developed there.

Familiar faces in the dressing room 👶

Although the 19-year-old is set to discover a new environment in the Principality after spending around a decade at ESTAC, he will not be stepping entirely into the unknown, as he will reunite with several teammates from France’s youth national teams. Indeed, when he earned his first cap for France U17 against Italy on February 13, 2024, the attacker lined up alongside two Monaco prospects, Jules Stawiecki and Pape Cabral. A few months later, he also met Aladji Bamba while representing France U20.

Thrown in at the deep end against a Ligue 1 heavyweight 🛁

Just a few months later, on January 15, 2025, at the Stade de l’Aube, he made his first appearance in Troyes’ senior squad during a Coupe de France Round of 32 clash against Stade Rennais. Introduced late in the match at only 17 years of age, he played his part in a memorable victory as his side knocked out top-flight opposition that day (1-0).

Coached by a former Red and White 👔

The coach who handed him his debut and played a major role in his development was none other than Stéphane Dumont, a former AS Monaco player between 2011 and 2013. Although he made 21 appearances in the Diagonale shirt, the former midfielder is best remembered for helping Monaco win the Ligue 2 title in 2013, securing promotion back to the top flight — a division the Club has not left since.

Winner of a tournament in good company 🪨

As his involvement in Ligue 2 steadily increased, Mathys Detourbet also became a regular with France’s youth teams during international breaks. Selected for France U20 at the prestigious Maurice Revello Tournament in the summer of 2025, he played alongside Aladji Bamba, Mayssam Benama, Saïmon Bouabré and Lucas Michal, all Monaco players at the time. Les Bleuets went on to lift the trophy, giving Monaco’s new signing the first title of his young career.

Young Player of the Month on one occasion ✨

While this represented his first collective honour, the Troyes native quickly followed it up with individual recognition. Having become a key figure in the Aube side, he played a major role in the team’s strong finish to 2025, notably providing two assists. His performances earned him the title of Ligue 2 Young Player of the Month for the November–December period.

Twice ESTAC Player of the Month 🥇

Outstanding throughout November 2025, notably scoring in the Coupe de France away to UF Touraine (0-2), the winger was voted ESTAC Player of the Month by the club’s supporters. He received the same honour again at the end of February 2026, after a period during which he registered an assist and found the net once. He went on to play a major role in ESTAC’s Ligue 2 title triumph a few weeks later, finishing the campaign with three goals and six assists.

Crowned Ligue 2’s best dribbler 🌪️

While he can make the difference through goals and assists, his greatest strength remains his technical ability. No player attempted or completed more dribbles than him in France’s second division. With 109 dribble attempts and 44 successful take-ons, the former ES Municipaux de Troyes player was deservedly named the league’s best dribbler, finishing ahead of his ESTAC teammate Antoine Mille.

A variety of inspirations 🤩

Naturally inspired by players with a similar profile, the 2026 Ligue 2 champion looks up to several global stars, including a former Monaco player. “I used to watch Lionel Messi a lot, and right now I watch Rayan Cherki. I think we’re quite similar — we play football for enjoyment and passion. I like the mentality of Kylian Mbappé and Cristiano Ronaldo. And Neymar was an absolute pleasure to watch, he was incredible!” he said in an interview with Onze Mondial.

An interesting prospect on FC 26 🎮

Finally, Mathys Detourbet represents an appealing option on the FC 26 video game. Although he currently has an overall rating of 64, his potential allows him to develop up to 80. His balance, agility, ball control, dribbling and acceleration attributes are particularly promising. And there is little doubt that his card will be even stronger on FC 27.
