Very influential in AS Monaco's play and involved in seven goals since the start of the season in the league, the Russian winger appears in the team of the first half of the season.

Impactful in the system… and the stats!

It must be said that the Monegasque number 17 was more than impactful in the game, but also on a statistical level. Already involved in seven goals this season, whether it’s with his passing or finishing (5 goals, 2 assists), the Russian playmaker is having his best season in Rouge et Blanc so far. “Golo’ has always been a top player. At one point he was hampered by injuries, but we always knew he was a superb player, and he showed it last season and again this year,” explained recently Youssouf Fofana at a press conference.

A key part of the team

“I’m proud of him. (…) He’s 27 now, it’s the age when you reach your peak in football. He’s smart and has little tricks, the profession is well established and we feel it on the ground,” he continued. Now in full possession of his means at the physical level, by his own admission, the one who is now one of the oldest in the Monegasque squad, along with Wissam Ben Yedder, has a different role to play today, particularly in distribution.

When the team plays well, it makes sense that I am in the best conditions to perform. We have played a lot of good matches this season, we are very good offensively. So this is one of the reasons why I have good statistics, whether in terms of goals or assists.

“Today I’m in very good form, there’s a great team here, I would even say a family! So it’s the perfect moment to show the best version of myself,” he admitted before the match against Montpellier at the beginning of December, where he was voted MVP on his 150th appearance in Ligue 1. And this was for the seventh time already this season, in addition to having been named four times to l’Équipe’s Team of the Matchday.

He was notably the author of a superb double to change the outcome against Metz (succès 2-1), or he was also involved in both goals against Stade Brestois. Golo’ has thus been well-rewarded for his strong start to the season!

Named MVP of the half-season by the AS Monaco app users, the Russian playmaker was also named to L’Équipe’s Ligue 1 team of the half season, picked by the sports daily L’Équipe. He was selected alongside Guillaume Restes, whom he faced in Toulouse  (a 1-2 win), Kylian Mbappé or even Ousmane Dembélé. Daghe Golo’! 👏
