Wissam Ben Yedder named Ligue 1 Player of the Month for January!

Scorer of five goals (including a hat trick) and now the third-top scorer in the history of AS Monaco, the captain was named MVP of the month of January by the fans of the Rouge et Blanc, as well as winning the UNFP Trophy for best player in Ligue 1. Bravo Wiss'!

The New Year had no effect on the performance of Wissam Ben Yedder! On fire in 2022 with 29 goals scored in all competitions, the Monegasque captain has not let up in 2023 -- he has already scored five in January. He started off in the Round of 64 of the Coupe de France against Rodez at the Stade Louis-II perfectly clipping home a cross from Ismail Jakobs at the far post.

Only four days later in Lorient,he did the same. On a delivery by the German defender, theRouge et Blancnumber 10 headed home from six meters to beat the former Monegasque Vito Mannone to equalize in added time (2-2).

We currently have eight attackers and two with Wissam and Breel who have scored at least ten goals each in Ligue 1. Only Paris Saint-Germain are doing better than us and have as many weapons. This is where we see the strength of our collective, because beyond the scorers, everyone brings their contributions to the table.

And then what to say about his play against Ajaccio (7-1) ! It was a massive performance with three goals scored in 35 minutes, the earliest hat trick for a Ligue 1 player since Cheick Diabaté for Bordeaux against Guingamp in April 2014, notes Opta.

He first beat Benjamin Leroy to make it 3-1 for his team, before winning his duel with a shot across goal seven minutes later. Wissam Ben Yedder finally finished his festival with a very well-taken penalty to give himself a sixth hat-trick in the league (three with Toulouse, and as many with AS Monaco). Only Kylian Mbappé and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have had more in the 21st century.

But more than this hat-trick, what should be remembered is the fact that he scored his 87, 88 and 89th goals in the colors of AS Monaco, thus becoming the third-top scorer in the history of the Club, level with Christian Dalger.
