Sofiane Diop is your IQONIQ MVP against Brest
IQONIQ presents the Red and Whites' MVP of the 6th Matchday in Ligue 1 Uber Eats, as selected by you on the AS Monaco App: Sofiane Diop!

Trained at Stade Rennais, Sofiane Diop arrived on the Rock in 2018 and immediately played his first official matches with AS Monaco. Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and even four Champions League games, the young midfielder, now 20, played in various competitions with the Red and White, before leaving for a season on loan at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. Fifteen matches, one goal and one assist later, he is back this year and fully integrated into Niko Kovac’s squad.

Ever versatile, Sofiane Diop made his return to the Stade Louis-II by coming on at half-time in the match against Reims. On one of his first efforts, he almost  was able to beat Pedrag Rajkovic, the Champagne goalkeeper. In a role of midfielder or winger, the native of Tours then made three consecutive starts and scored his first goal against Nantes. After coming on against Strasbourg last week, the number 37 made his return to the starting XI yesterday against Brest.

Placed in a three-man midfield alongside Youssouf Fofana and Cesc Fabregas, Sofiane Diop was very active throughout the match. Playing his 28th match in the colors of AS Monaco, he played the ball 102 times, making him the player with the most touches in the match (ahead of Benoît Badiashile and his 98 touch, with the first Brest player being Ronaël Pierre-Gabriel with 44 balls played).

In a role of midfielder, Sofiane Diop completed 90% of his passes (74 out of 82), three of which resulted in a Monegasque shot. From his height of 1m75, he also tried a shot on four occasions, notably being the author of a half-volley at the edge of the area which looked headed for the top corner. Unfortunately for the Red and Whites, Sofiane Diop’s strike was deflected at the last moment by Brendan Chardonnet when Gautier Larsonneur had seemed beaten.

With 36.9% of the votes, Sofiane Diop was your winner on the AS Monaco App, your IQONIQ MVP of the match against Stade Brestois. He finished ahead of Ruben Aguilar (18.5%) and Benjamin Lecomte (14.4%). The next match is after the international break against Montpellier HSC.
