Guillermo Maripán is your IQONIQ Match MVP against Paris!

Guillermo Maripán is your IQONIQ Match MVP against Paris!
With his fifth goal for AS Monaco in 2021 coming against PSG in a 2-0 win, the Chilean central defender was voted MVP of the match by the Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App, for the second time this season.

As he has so often this season, the defender has once again turned into a scorer. Already having found the net four times since the start of the calendar year, Guillermo Maripán added one more goal to his total by netting the second in the club’s big win against Paris this Sunday night (2-0).

A nickname that sticks

“El Goleador” thus made good on his nickname and was voted the IQONIQ Match MVP against Mauricio Pochettino’s side. It’s a title he’s acquired thanks to his overall performance, which allowed AS Monaco to bring back a clean sheet as well as the three points from the Parc des Princes.

A fox in the box

The tale had started in Lorient. Coming on at half-time, Guillermo Maripán scored his first goal of the season at the Moustoir in Monaco’s win in Brittany  (5-2). Since then, everything seems to have smiled on Monaco’s number 3. His goal was all the more important for his teammates against PSG, as it was synonymous with AS Monaco making their mark at the start of the second half, with a lovely cushioned shot which left Keylor Navas no chance (2-0, 53′). Once again, he remained up the pitch, following a set piece. Displaying fearsome efficiency in the opposing penalty area, the Chilean international has now scored an impressive five goals in Ligue 1 in 2021, more than any other defender in the five major European leagues over the same period.

The team’s fourth-top scorer

It was a fifth goal which also makes the central defender Monegasque’s fourth-top scorer this season. He could even have drawn level with Sofiane Diop, if the native of Tours had not himself decided to be decisive by opening the scoring at the start of the match (1-0, 6th), finishing a lovely bit of team play. The young midfielder was also in the running for the title of MVP against Paris, with 18% of the votes.

But that was not enough to reverse the trend for Guillermo Maripán after his great match, steering his side to a deserved clean sheet. Whether scoring or keeping the Red and White goal empty, “El Goleador” was everywhere against PSG. He therefore logically wins his second MVP following a win against Nantes, with 55% of the votes from Monegasque fans on the AS Monaco App. Bravo Guillermo !
