Cesc Fàbregas is the MVP of the semifinal against Rumilly Vallières

Cesc Fàbregas is the MVP of the semifinal against Rumilly Vallières
Scorer of a sumptuous free kick and having added a pair of assists, the Spanish midfielder turned in a class display to allow his team to reach the final of the Coupe de France. He was therefore voted MVP of the match by the fans on the AS Monaco APP.

Ten days after celebrating his 34th birthday, Cesc Fàbregas is still in good shape and he proved it this Thursday against Rumilly Vallières. Despite the conceding the opening goal against the smallest side left in the Coupe de France after 20 minutes of play, AS Monaco got into gear, eventually winning 5-1, carried by their number 4, who was involved in three goals.

A brilliant free kick

Five minutes after the equalizer, which had come from an own goal by left back Arthur Bozon, the Spanish midfielder first delivered a perfect corner to the head of Aurélien Tchouameni, unmarked at the far post (2-1, 32′). Then on his return from the locker room, he played a perfect one-two with Wissam Ben Yedder at the edge of the area (1-2, 55′), before providing what was the highlight of the match a quarter of an hour from time.

Following a foul on the Monegasque number 8, the Rouge et Blanc has a well-positioned  free kick 23 meters from goal. Cesc Fàbregas chose to take it himself. His free kick was superb and it landed in the top corner, past a helpless Dan Delaunay in a fine display of precision from the 2010 World Cup winner (1-4, 78′).

Wissam Ben Yedder is in great form

He would then be subbed off for Florentino Luis, having done his duty in delivering two assists and scoring a magnificent goal. While the former Spain international had enjoyed the match, his captain was not to be outdone, scoring another goal, his 21st in all competitions. After a one-two with Cesc Fàbregas, Wissam Ben Yedder had found himself alone at the penalty spot and beat the opposing goalkeeper with a sublime chip.

It’s a finish that he seems to have mastered perfectly as we saw against Dijon or Angers a few weeks earlier. Earlier in the game, he could also have been the author of an assist if Kevin Volland’s strike had not hit the crossbar, but it was the Spanish midfielder who was voted MVP of the match by the fans for the second time this season with 34% of the vote. Well done Cesc!
